I’d never done anything like this before. No trekking experience, no idea what altitude sickness actually felt like—just a bucket list and some stubbornness. Booked through eBcTrails after reading through their itinerary, which actually explained why each stop was where it was, not just listed the days.
Our guide figured out within the first two hours that I was slower on the ascent than I thought I’d be. He never made it awkward. Just quietly adjusted my pace and kept talking about whatever I wanted to talk about. At Namche he sat with me for twenty minutes going over what the next few days would look like, which honestly calmed me down more than anything else could have.
Made it to Base Camp on day ten. Cried a bit, which I wasn’t expecting.
Organizing a trek for eleven colleagues across four different countries, with varying fitness levels and two vegetarians and one person who’d never left Europe before, is the kind of project that can go wrong in about a hundred ways. Nothing went sideways. Pre-trip communication was quick and clear. Permits, airport transfers, dietary requirements — all handled without me chasing anyone. When one colleague developed mild altitude symptoms near Dingboche, the guide made the call to have him rest an extra day without any drama or pressure. He made it to Base Camp the following day.

I was in a dilemma about choosing a trekking company in Nepal since it was my first time trekking. To be honest, eBc Trails was my instant decision. But it was the best choice that I could’ve made. From Kathmandu to Khumbu, it felt like I had a friend along with me because he was a very down-to-earth guy. I might regret saying this as I am planning to go trekking again with EBC but the guide even helped me carry my loads when I was dead-tired and was not able to go forward. Overall, he ensured that I took as much as I could and had the best accommodations available during our stops. FYI, I went with private trekking and eBc helped me understand all the important information, including the itineraries and schedule of the trek. I don’t know if it was my inexperience speaking or what, but from what I could muster up online, eBc Trails is the best trekking company in Nepal, especially if you’re a beginner like me.
