TRIP OVERVIEW
The Annapurna Base Camp trek is a 14-day Himalayan trail that forms a loop, beginning in the serene lake city of Pokhara and leading into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary. Embark on a thrilling adventure that takes you to not just one, but two iconic base camps in the heart of the Himalayas – Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) and Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC). This dual journey offers trekkers the rare opportunity to experience the majestic grandeur of both the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountains up close.
Starting from the lush lowlands, you’ll gradually ascend through diverse landscapes, from dense rhododendron forests to alpine meadows, before reaching the Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3,700m/12,140ft). You’ll find yourself immersed in breathtaking panoramic views of towering peaks such as Machhapuchhre, Himchuli, and Gangapurna.
The adventure continues as you make your way to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m/13,549ft). Nestled in the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary, this base camp is a natural amphitheater encircled by some of the tallest and most awe-inspiring peaks in the world. From here, the towering giants of the Annapurna Range, including Annapurna I (8,091m/26,545ft), create a breathtaking backdrop, making this journey a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Your journey begins in Pokhara, a peaceful lakeside city, before heading into the wild Himalayan landscapes. Along the way, you’ll pass notable landmarks such as Nayapul, Tikhedhunga, Ghorepani, the famous Poon Hill, Tadapani, Chhomrong, Dovan, Deurali, Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC), and finally reach Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). Each destination offers unique experiences and stunning views of the Annapurna region.
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is more than just a scenic trek; it’s a cultural journey that immerses you in the rich traditions of the Gurung, Magar, Thakali, and Loba communities. As you trek, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of their way of life, experiencing their warm hospitality firsthand.
